Radford, Virginia

The scrape of graffitied iron

On midnight tracks

Pulsates off the desolate

Downtown brick

Telling the old

Of their efforts

And the young

Of their duty

One Breath in the Wilderness

A barbed wire fence

And its ferns; best of friends!

Mate a

Fish hook

With the mouth of

A fish,

What a death! –With no scream!

Like me,

In the company

Of the sea,

Scares... me... to... pieces.

The wildest of beasts

Cannot ......breathe

Beneath the-

No task-at-hand

Can

Stand in the

Ocean.

I flee from the sea,

Retreat to my kingdom.

I’m the prince of the trees,

Chief of the jungle.

Not a mountain

Can make me bow,

No

Wind

Will

Bend

My

Crown.

I'll trade life

And a scream from the deep,

For a death and one breath

In the wilderness.

For February First

The February Challenge

One picture
One shot
Everyday
For thirty days
Or thirty one
Nobody really knows

Brace
Your
Faces

Performance 2 of 2

I lumbered
Toward the support of
The podium

With intentional
Silence
And a weighty exhale
I steadily scanned
The forest of faces

I hoped
To offer my words like a breeze
But
My discontentment
Delivered a forceful wind
The sort of wind
That tests the flexibility
Of each branch

I swallowed
My metaphors
And unwrapped a new package
By opening my mouth-the gate to my words- the start of my speech:

Henceforth
I will no longer be performing for you
You don't know me or the tunnels in my
Mind or the words I ignored to utter these........

Performance 1 of 2

How twisted it is when the stage is lit
And the singer
Bellows
Or more apt – when the dancer dances
That we spectate
With such pomposity
As if the bellows-
As if the dance
Is danced for
Us

The spotlight does not
Request the dance
But bestows it

The dancer knows it
To be simple
Silly
Why perform
For an unadorned face
In a dark seat
When it’s the spotlight that is watching

Atack of Tears

Copy and paste
The pain to your face
Arrange your frame
Display your distaste

Your eyes formulate
The tear paths I map
The rain trails I trace
I can’t

Combat your attacks
I shake, topple, break
Shatter like a vase

Hear the cackle of emotion
As it laughs in my face
